The Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration Dinner is dedicated to preserving the memory of Dr. King’s commitment to equal justice and to keeping his dream alive. The co-founder of the dinner, Dr. Dorothy Enomoto, was a classmate and close friend of Dr. King. Their friendship, sealed by sharing valedictorian honors at Booker T. Washington Senior High School in Atlanta, continued through the remainder of his life. Proceeds from the event fund the MLK Committee grant program, designed for non-profit organizations that assist children and/or families in the areas of education, health or civil rights and foster diversity in the Sacramento region.
Supporters of the event include community leaders and activists, elected officials, small businesses and large corporations. Guests characterize the diversity of our community and are a mix of ethnic, religious and economic backgrounds. The MLK Committee is a California Nonprofit Public Benefit Corporation.
